Why Does Message Symbol Continue to Show on Mitel Phone

In the Teamwork app, you can send a direct message (IM) to anyone in your organization's MiCloud Connect phone system who has a supported phone profile. A direct message can be sent to multiple contacts.

If you have the Connect SMS service, you can also send an SMS message to a 10-digit phone number in the United States or Canada. An SMS message can be sent to only one phone number. To learn more, see SMS Requirements and Limitations.

Note: After you send a message, it cannot be edited or deleted, and participants cannot be added or removed.

Message Typing Indicators

When you are typing text in the "Type a message" area, your name followed by "is typing" appears on the message screen for each of the contacts who will be receiving your message. When a contact is typing text to send you a message, you will see that person's name followed by "is typing" on the message page. If you are chatting with multiple contacts who are typing simultaneously, the typing indicator shows the first name of up to three contacts.

Send a Direct or SMS Message to a Contact

You can send a direct message to one or more contacts who have a supported phone profile in your MiCloud Connect phone system. If you have the Connect SMS service and have given Teamwork permission to access the personal contacts on your mobile phone, you can send an SMS message to one personal contact who has a 10-digit phone number in the United States or Canada. To learn more, see SMS Requirements and Limitations.

  1. Tap the Messages icon at the bottom of the app.
  2. Tap the new message icon at the top of the screen.
  3. In the "To" area at the top of the page, type the first few letters or numbers in the desired contact's name, email address, extension, or phone number (and type more letters or numbers as needed).
  4. In the search results that appear, do one of the following:

If the desired 10-digit phone number is not assigned to a personal contact, type a complete 10-digit phone number or vanity number (e.g., 1800gofedex) and tap the "Send SMS to" number that appears in the search results.

  5. Tap Start at the top of the screen.
  6. Type your message in the "Type a message" area at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap the send icon.

Allow Teamwork to Access Your Contacts

To send SMS messages to the personal contacts on your phone, you have to tap the OK or Allow option when you see a pop-up message asking you to allow Teamwork to access your contacts. If you choose the Don't Allow option, Teamwork will not be able to search your personal contacts. If this occurs and you want to change your selection, the next time you create a new message, when the person icon appears, tap the linked settings text below to open the Teamwork > Settings area on your mobile phone, and make sure the Contacts setting is turned on for Teamwork.

SMS Requirements and Limitations

Requirements

  • Users must have an assigned 10-digit DID (direct inward dial) phone number to get this SMS service.
  • The Connect SMS service (previously known as Business SMS) is required by MiCloud Connect customers who want to send SMS messages in Teamwork.
    • When the SMS service was released in December 2018, it was made available to only new MiCloud Connect customers who requested the SMS service during initial account activation.
    • As of June of 2020, the Connect SMS service is available to all other MiCloud Connect customers whose Authorized Contacts can now enable the Connect SMS service for their Teamwork users.

Limitations

  • Sending many outbound SMS messages in quick succession from your Mitel business phone number will temporarily block your outgoing SMS messages. This is done via the spam blockers put in place by the many carriers that work with Mitel. These spam blockers are not usually triggered via normal business use.
  • Mobile carriers who work with Mitel impose a character limit on inbound SMS messages sent from external parties to your Mitel business phone number. These character limits vary by carrier and depend on the contents of the message.

Use Siri to Access Messages

When using Teamwork on an iPhone, you can use Siri to send or read messages. This requires an internet connection, a sign in to Teamwork, and when prompted, allow Siri to access Teamwork data. For example, you can say:

  • "Hey Siri, any new messages in Teamwork?"
  • "Hey Siri, send a message to Jerry in Teamwork."

After reading a message to you, Siri automatically asks if you want to reply and then guides you through the process.
